Academic Calendar

  • Our academic year is comprised of two semesters: spring and fall, each lasting 16 weeks, including the examination period.
  • Attending the orientation is mandatory for all participating exchange and visiting students.

Eligibility

Exchange/Visiting students must meet the following requirements:

  • Enrollment as a full-time student in a university program.
  • Completion of at least one semester at their home university.
  • Maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.5 or its equivalent.
  • Demonstrating adequate proficiency in English or Korean.
  • Being in good physical and mental health.

Additional considerations for students before nomination:

  • Students must ensure financial stability throughout the study period.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to thoroughly review our course list to confirm the availability of a sufficient number of courses that meet their academic requirements. Please note that course registration cannot be guaranteed, as course availability and seat capacity may fluctuate depending on the number of exchange students and the university’s academic circumstances in a given semester. Therefore, we do not recommend coming with an overly rigid academic plan.
  • It is mandatory for students to possess private health insurance covering hospital expenses during their stay in Korea.
  • Students are advised to have good mental and physical health for a successful experience studying abroad.

Nomination and Application Periods

  • Students wishing to study as an exchange or visiting student need to be nominated by their home university.
  • Nominations must be made by the exchange coordinator or study abroad adviser and must include the student’s full name, email address, period of study, academic major, and intended field of study.
  • Nomination calls are dispatched to our exchange/visiting partners via email on March 15 for the Fall Semester and September 15 for the Spring Semester. Partners who do not receive our nomination calls are kindly requested to send us an email at exchange@dankook.ac.kr.
  • For detailed information about the nomination process, students are encouraged to consult with their home university's international office or relevant personnel.
  • Nomination is not required for students from a non-partner university wishing to study at Dankook University as a visiting student. Kindly send us an email for more information about the application process before the nomination deadline.

Application Process

Online Application

  • After being nominated, students will receive an email containing a link to complete the online application process.
  • Students are required to establish an email account on the DKU application website to proceed with the application.
  • Then students need to fill out the online application form, providing details such as personal information, chosen major, preferred accommodation type, etc.
  • Students must also upload the necessary documents.
  • The specific documents needed may vary based on the applicant's nationality.

Acceptance Letter

  • The application screening process occurs after the application deadline. During this period, students may be requested to submit additional documents or provide clarifications.
  • Decisions on applications are typically communicated within 6 weeks from the deadline.
  • Accepted students will receive a package containing an official acceptance letter and a certificate of admission for visa purposes.
  • Typically, acceptance packages are distributed in mid-December for the Spring Semester and mid-June for the Fall Semester.

Visa

  • A student visa is mandatory for non-Korean students intending to study in Korea.
  • Upon receiving the acceptance package, students must personally contact the nearest Korean embassy or consulate general promptly for their student visa
  • Visa processing times vary and may range from a few days to months, depending on the country and embassy. Therefore, students are advised to initiate the visa application process as early as possible.
  • Dankook University cannot guarantee visa issuance.

Health Insurance

  • Exchange/visiting students must have health insurance covering their stay in Korea.
  • Students need to purchase health insurance in their home country and submit the certificate before coming to Korea.
  • The insurance policy should cover sickness, accidents, and death. Students should also familiarize themselves with how the health insurance works in case of any medical issues.
  • Additionally, students must subscribe to the Korean national health insurance service; however, exemptions are available for those whose purchased private insurance meets specific requirements.

  • If students are not highly proficient in Korean, we strongly recommend selecting courses only from this list.
  • Courses offered in English are available in Jukjeon Campus only; Cheonan Campus does not offer courses in English.
  • This list also includes a wide range of intensive Korean language courses designed for international students learning the Korean language.
  • The complete course list for each new semester will be released approximately one month before the semester begins. While the overall offerings do not change significantly, students should be aware that adjustments may occur depending on academic circumstances. Therefore, prospective students are strongly advised to review the course list from the previous year as a useful reference, while keeping in mind that some changes are possible.

Courses Offered in Korean

  • Courses offered in Korean, both major and liberal arts, are recommended for students with a Korean proficiency of at least TOPIK Level 4 or above.
  • Students can search for lectures in the course catalog for each campus below.
  • Actual registration may be restricted based on departmental limitations and remaining seats for each course.
  • Courses in the Jukjeon Campus School of Theater and Film (Theater, Film, Musical) and courses in the Cheonan Campus Medical School, Dental School, Pharmacy School, and Nursing School are all unavailable for enrollment.

Course Selection and Credits

  • We offer exchange/visiting students the freedom to select courses from any department, irrespective of their major. Students are advised to read the course syllabus for each chosen course, as course selection is entirely their responsibility.
  • Course registration is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed, as course availability and seat capacity may vary depending on the number of students and the university’s academic circumstances each semester. For this reason, students are advised not to apply with an overly rigid academic plan.
  • Exchange students may choose any course from the provided list of English-taught courses and mix courses from different departments regardless of their major.
  • There is no prerequisite to attend courses in any year level. However, we advise students to carefully assess their capabilities and make informed decisions by reviewing the course syllabi.
  • Students can take up to 19 credits per semester including the Korean language courses. Exceeding the 19-credit limit is strictly prohibited under all circumstances. Additionally, auditing classes without formal enrollment is not permitted.
  • While there is no strict minimum number of courses required for exchange students, we advise taking a minimum of 6 credits to ensure a rewarding and enriching academic experience.
  • Before registering for courses, we encourage students to consider the credit transfer or validation process for when they return to their home university. To gain clarity on this matter, it is essential to consult with their home university beforehand.
  • Students can take courses from one campus only.

Housing

On-Campus Housing

  • Students select their accommodation type during the application stage. Guaranteed placement is ensured for those choosing on-campus housing in their online application.
  • Residence on campus is optional, allowing students to choose to live off campus independently.
  • Exchange students residing on campus will be accommodated in double occupancy rooms at Woongbi Hall for Jukjeon Campus and Danwoo Hall for Cheonan Campus. Single rooms are not available.
  • All residents have a roommate and are asked about their roommate preference. While the housing office endeavors to accommodate preferences, it's not guaranteed.

Off-Campus Housing

  • Although living on campus is recommended for reasons such as safety, building a sense of community, and cost-effectiveness, students are free to choose off-campus accommodation if they prefer. However, Dankook University does not arrange off-campus housing for students, nor does it endorse specific real estate agents or service providers.
  • Therefore, students who wish to secure off-campus accommodation must independently locate suitable housing and carefully review and understand any contracts or agreements they enter into.
